D-Code Camp 3 2013 (Penang) Part 1

Hello.
Wow. Half a year of NOTHING. Well, here goes. FIRST POST OF THE YEAR!
Actually, I really need to post this. Because I'm afraid I will forget about this amazing camp that I've just been to. I do not want to forget this amazing experience. So, I treat this blog as my online diary or something so that when I grow up and I read this post back, I will remember about this camp, the amazing people I've met, and the things that I've done that I never thought I can ever do!
Well, here goes nothing! I've been to this camp in Penang.
We have to do an IQ test first to get qualified to go to this camp. They will only choose the top 10. And thankfully, I got chosen! All thanks to luck (again)! It was a five-day camp in Penang. I was really happy when I get to hear that I was chosen to go to the camp! But something struck me. The camp was on the 27th to the 31st of May. BAM. There goes my camp. I've been organizing a camp (the St. John camp which I've been to every year) for the past 2 months which is held on the 30th, 31st of May and 1st of June. And hell, I was torn between two choices. I kept thinking on which camp to go. Sir Nizam (my AWESOME ICT TEACHER!) told me to think properly and give him the answer by the 25th.
Everyday till the 25th, I kept thinking which one should I go. I was making a list of pros and cons in my brain everywhere I go. I kept thinking that I shouldn't just leave the St. John camp alone! We've been all working so hard on it for about 2 months! There's NO WAY I can dump it just like that. And I was thinking about the D-Code camp. It IS a GREAT opportunity. I mean like a ONCE in a lifetime opportunity. It MAY have something to do with my CAREER, and my FUTURE. I was so sad at that time, torn between two important things in my life that I can NEVER miss. I cannot MISS ANY OF THEM! I was so sad and desperate only God knows how horrible I feel. It was until the last minute that I called up Sir Nizam and asked if I can go back on the 4th day of the camp. He said he'll try talking to them so he asked me to come on the first day and I get to go back! Thank God! I was very very happy. I was thinking at least I get to go for 4 days! It's better than not going and not learning ANYTHING AT ALL!
And everything went by really quickly. Bla bla bla. And BAM. 27th of May 2013. Was the day of my life. I woke up bright and early. Went to BM to had our breakfast. Back home. Then straight to school. I packed my clothes for the next six days on the night before. Because my plan was to go back from D-Code on the 30th and straight to school for the St. John camp! So, it was 6 days straight that I was not able to go home!
I finally reached school and saw some of my friends there. I was pretty excited even though none of my best friends were actually following me cuz ALL of them took accounts. But I did not regret for taking ICT. I definitely did not regret.
Back to the story. We waited for the bus to come cuz it came from Baling (a deeper place in Kedah). When it finally arrived, we went in and saw like 10 boys sitting at the end of the bus. We didn't say hi, didn't greet, or anything. We just got to our seats made ourselves comfortable and stuff. Then sir had to wait for 2 other boys who IN THE END did not turn up. Then we went to buy some stuff to eat on the way to penang.
Then the bus started going. And all of us were in our comfortable position. And the driver actually took the other route to Tanjung Bungah. Like seriously. That place was jam packed! It was lunch time. And all of us were getting a little panicky cuz we thought we were gonna be late. I actually fell asleep in the bus cuz it was getting all chilly and stuff.

When we finally reached there, I woke up and got quite excited for the 4 days stay in at Flamingo Hotel by the Beach, Penang. Like seriously, who isn't?! And we got greeted by a few facilitators like kak Nadh (I'm sooo sorry idk her real name :/) and Abang Fadzril and Abang Paan! We left our bags at a corner for the hotel staff to bring them into the hall. Then we registered ourselves and got a bag! Inside there were 3 t-shirts (green, blue, and orange), a pen, a notebook, an info kit, and a 4GB pendrive. Then, we went to have our first lunch! Buffet style. Then we changed into our first t-shirt which is the green one. And the t-shirt which I got was with the size XL. I WAS LIKE. THE HELL IS THIS. XL. I know lah, I'm fat. But why XL?! It was super big and long. Then my Muslim friends went for their prayers. Then I went to the hall, alone. I was the first one there. I saw all board which has our school name written on it. And I just sat there. And they asked me to open my email. The internet was super duper slow. But they got it fixed right away. Then some schools started coming in too.
Not long after that, the facilitators came in and introduced themselves. And there was Abang Fadzril A.k.a TOMOK, the emcee of the camp. Which was definitely amazing! They thought us the D-CODE CLAP. Which goes like this- 2, 2, 3, GO! and when they shout "CODERS!" we must clap like this- 1, 2, READY! That was certainly amazing. They did some briefing and stuffs. Told us things that we should and should not do. And also introduced us to coding like what is coding, why coding, and stuff like that.
And we did some ice breaking game. All of us had to use a colour paper which each school got a colour. My school's colour was pink! XD We had to write our name, school, and hobby. Fold it into a paper airplane and throw it all over! Then once we got a person's airplane, we have to go find that person and return it back to him/her. I got a boy's one from SMKA Kerian. His name was Akif! Then Abang Fadzril had to go around testing people if they remembered whose airplane they got. And he came to me! I said that I got Akif's who is from SMKA Kerian. And thankfully I remembered his hobby which was surfing the internet! :P Then another indian boy got called. He got one from Alia. But he forgot her hobby. So, she had to decide what punishment to be carried out on him. She asked him to do Gwiyomi. But he didn't know how to do. So, they forced her to come in front and teach him. But she gave another reason and said that she didn't have the music! But another boy from Baling had the music. So he was also called in front to perform! But in the end, only Alia performed. And the other 2 were asked to mimic what Abang Fadzril did! Hell, was it funny! We had a good laugh! :)
Then, came tea time. Which I did not even take a bite at all. Cuz I had a very full filling lunch. And they gave us the keys to our room! Ameeta and I shared a room. At room 814! :D Which was very awesome indeed because it was only the two of us in a room. AMAZING. Settled down a little. Changed into sports attire for team building session. I was a little curious on what was about to happen.
We went back to the hall quite early. So, we just switched on the computer checking on our facebook and stuff like that. Then when everybody came in it was time! Each of us had a file in our computer. So, we had to type our name inside. Then, it will display which group were we supposed to be in. They had the blue, white, orange, yellow, green, and red team! I got the blue team with my school mate, Aina! Which was amazing. Cuz one thing I hate in camps was getting team mates that are not that sporting and that do not interact much. But, to my surprise! The team that I got was amazing! We had to choose our group leader. We had to put our right hand in the air with our index finger out. Then, at the count of 3, we had to point to the person who we think will be a good leader. At last, our group leader was Mustaqim! Then the group leaders had to go get some stuff. Then he came back with a paper written 'bicycle'. We had to innovate the object that we got into how we think it will look like in around 10 years' time. And at the same time, we had to create our group cheer. They thought that it would be a great idea if the girls created the cheer while the boys brainstorm the idea. But I got a great idea! And joined the boys instead cuz I remembered reading about a Doraemon comic about the bicycle. But I don't quite remember it. So, we just randomly draw some tricycle and had a few buttons on it. A button that can make the bike invisible and can go through anything. A button that can make the bike into a boat thingy. And another that can make it fly. The bike is made of alloy, a very light material. It also has a solar panel for it to transform solar energy into chemical energy. Which I thought was really amazing as a stepping stone to a great team! Cuz we really talked and cooperated, which to me was incredible! LOVE BLUE TEAM! ;)
After presenting, we get to go back to our rooms and take a shower and then go take dinner and back to the hall at 7. Which means we only had 1 hour. Which was honestly, a little short. Then I decided that I can just take a little shower and wash my hair at night which was around 10. Then, we went and had our dinner! Buffet style. But the dishes were just ordinary. Nothing much. But it was nice. I ate really little only. Idk what happened to my appetite.
After that we went back to the hall to start out first lesson! Which was HTML 1! It was very interesting indeed. And we had to make an account on Codecademy which we used to do all our exercises. But the internet was REALLY slow as  everybody was using it and there were some problems here and there. Some of us got the connection. But most of us did not. So we did some exercises using Notepad. So now I know the uses of the Notepad. All along I thought it was just some useless application. But there's so much I can use with it.
Then they gave a paper to every school. Which is sort of like a mind map. It need us to generate an idea which uses the ICT concept to help solve problems and make life much easier. So we decided to go to one of our rooms later that night to discuss. Then they told us that we had to take our breakfast at the cafe at 7 cuz we were sharing our breakfast with the other hotel guests as well.
After everything at night, at around 10 they had some supper but I did not want to eat :x. Then we went to our rooms changed into something more comfy then we went to Aina and Farahin's room. Which was a floor above ours. Then we started discussing on what problem we should come up with. I really love our team. One thing is because we're all girls. And it's much easier to work with all girls cuz we can just enter a room all together. And if we have boys, that would be a lot more harder. And another thing is that all of them are so amazing at brain storming in the middle of the night. And full of energy. Then we came up with some crazy ideas. But decided not to put them cuz that would ruin our school's image and stuff :P It was incredible working with them. But of course, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. So we also gossiped a bit( Well, ALL GIRLS. What do you expect ;) )
After all that laughing and stuff we went back to our rooms at around 12 cuz we had to wake up at 6 to get ready. Said our goodnights and went to sleep. But the worst thing is that my room's air cond was not working. But it was still quite chilly.
And that is the end of DAY 1! An amazing day it was.
Okay. That's it! Will post the 2nd day as soon as possible! BYEEEE :D Take care! XOX
My first lunch at the cafe! Delish ;)

My view for the next 5 days. How amazing is that? Working with just a computer :)
